Modern Hollywood meets Melbourne life

Why good tailoring is a must!

Great interior design tells a story. It transports us to other worlds; breathes life into empty space. Each and every choice sets the scene for a sensory experience that can make a room feel ‘just right’.

Although deceptively simple, the work of interior designers comes down to a keen eye for the details that the rest of us overlook. It’s these details that the team at design house Daqua revel in.

A visit to the Daqua store, run by owner and designer Renato will show you just how important these small details really are. As you walk in, you’re transported to the opulence of Manhattan’s Tribeca borough, steeped in vivid colour and rich textures but also mixed with deeply traditional pieces. While the store sits comfortably in our very own Collins Street, Daqua is a portal to modern Hollywood with a clear nod to glamour and make-believe.

As a committed traveller and collector himself, Renato is acutely aware of the role that storytelling plays in the work of his brand.

“Our style icons are people such as Tom Ford and Kelly Wearstler — they embody the modern Hollywood style that makes our favourite cities like New York such incredible places to visit,” says Renato.

But there’s also plenty of hints of elegant 1950s Monaco and the vibrant eclecticism of 20th century Palm Springs and LA, all of which have inspired the Hollywood aesthetic ever since. And Renato encourages a sense of exploration when advising people on interior design.

“Our individual lifestyles dictate what style can mean to us and what works in our homes or workplaces, but I encourage eclecticism. If you get it right it’s a wonderful way to reflect the various stories, phases and defining events in our lives.”

Renato’s three favourite items currently in store are testament to this eclecticism and glamour.

  1. Add a little Rolls Royce to your life
This piece brings that touch of traditional, opulent luxurious to a room, and can be used in a wide variety of ways. Placed on top of a stack of your favourite books on a side table, as a decorative piece on a shelf, or as a centrepiece on a mantle, it brings a rich focal point to an otherwise ignored space.

  2. Say cheers
Have some fun with a drinks trolley that evokes the elegance of Art Deco Manhattan. Not only does it make at-home cocktails a whole lot more special, it’s an ideal spot for things other than just drinks, including fresh flowers and food. Practical and beautiful, Daqua’s range of trolleys and drinks cabinets make a grand statement in your living room.

  3. Take a seat
Add both glamour and comfort to your living room with a bold-coloured lounge like the Lovelace sofa. This kind of piece sets the tone for your room and invites you to choose accents to ramp up or tone down the glamour as your mood dictates.

Always changing, Daqua’s range of home furnishings, art and accessories are available online now, or in-store when retail reopens. The team also offers a design service for your home or workplace. Call or message the team now for a consultation.
